Do you have a strong interest in systems biology and disease-related research in the context of chronic pain? Do you want to benefit from working in an interdisciplinary, dynamic, and highly motivated research group embedded in the excellent and international environment of the University of Vienna?
Then come join our new team of the “Systems Biology of Pain” Group at the Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology as a Postdoctoral fellow.
Our translational research focuses on the molecular underpinnings of painful pathologies in vertebrates. In particular, we have setup an integrated workflow for the discovery of system-wide proteome dynamics involved in chronic pain (please see our webpage https://pharmtox.univie.ac.at/research/systems-biology-of-pain-prof-schmidt/). The goal of our work is to reveal protein network signatures of chronic pain in preclinical mouse models and also in humans, e.g. in patients with pain (as part of on-going collaborations with clinicians).
We seek candidates combining expertise in molecular biology, in vivo virus-mediated gene transfer, and mouse behavior. Candidates who have specific expertise in pain research and mouse pain models are especially encouraged to apply. It is also essential that the postholder is highly motivated and enthusiastic, is able to work independently and manage research projects including bench-work, literature search and team-work with other researchers including our collaborators.
Our research group is embedded in the Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Vienna. Thus, we benefit from close interactions with experts in chemical medicine, bioinformatics, drug screening, and systems biology. This interdisciplinary and dynamic environment provides ideal opportunities for collaborative research, learning, and scientific as well as personal development within the international research community in Vienna.
We embrace diversity and encourage female as well as international candidates to apply. The position is funded by a research grant of the FWF (Austrian Science Fund) and is limited with 3 years, starting date ideally is September 1, 2022.
