Research Assistant (m/f/d)
(salary group 13 TVöD; 39 hours per week)
for a limited period until 31.12.2024.
The project in question is “HPC.Bw: Competence platform for software efficiency and high-performance computing” as part of the Centre for Digitisation and Technology Research (dtec.bw).
Responsibilities:
- Research tasks within the framework of performance engineering (optimal algorithms, code optimisation and parallelisation) for various problems, e.g. from the fields of engineering and logistics
- Investigation of innovative programming approaches to program cutting-edge HPC hardware
- Teaching of basically 3.0 trimester hours per week
- Support for the Bachelor and Master degree programs
- Creation of tutorials on HPC best practices and the use of HPC resources
- Possibility of further academic qualification (e.g. doctorate or habilitation)
- Carrying out general administrative work as well as academic activities in academic self-administration
Qualification requirements:
- A university degree (Diploma [univ.] or Master) in a field of study with a specialization in high-performance computing or parallel programming (e.g. computer science, computational engineering, mathematics)
- Programming skills in relevant programming languages, especially C / C++ and C# as well as Fortran and Python, if applicable
- Very good knowledge of English and German, both written and spoken
Furthermore desired:
- Knowledge in the parallelisation of programs using MPI / Open / CUDA
- Knowledge in the field of combinatorial optimisation
- Interest in and excellent skills for highly interdisciplinary collaborations
- Interest in writing scientific publications for renowned scientific journals as well as presenting your work at renowned conferences
- Proactivity, teamwork and communication skills

The employment is based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD) in conjunction with the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG). In principle, the activities correspond to pay group 13 (E13). However, the actual classification depends on the fulfilment of the relevant collective agreement and personal requirements.
Part-time employment is possible.
