The University of St.Gallen's Director of the Institute for Media and Communication Management,
Prof.Dr.Miriam Meckel, seeks to appoint a Research Assistant (PhD candidate) with immediate start or
upon agreement for a 70 percent 3-year position.The position is financed by the CHANSE-funded international
research project «QShift:Decision-making in the age of QuantumAI».A successful candidate
will devote a substantial part of their time working on research and coordination.
The QShift project aims to provide the first systematic exploration of the cultural and social significance
of QuantumAI through three lenses: it will explore the importance of technological narratives
related to quantum computing (QC) and QuantumAI; the impact of QC on decision-making processes
ranging from individual actors to collective organisms; and QC's systemic perturbation of foundational
legal principles and processes.The Research Assistant's research interest should align particularly with
the first two parts of the project.
The Research Assistant will support Prof Meckel as the Lead Investigator of the project in all aspects of
the process, support the research process using established scientific protocols and procedures, and
summarize findings and contribute to publishing results in research journals. Candidates will develop
their doctoral thesis from the project and will get the chance to attend international conferences to
present the ongoing development of research and results.

Your tasks
- Support the research group and project in academic and administrative tasks;
- Design and implement research protocols; collect, prepare, analyze and present research data;
- Produce research reports and publications as required by the funding body and for dissemination to
the wider academic community;
- Search pertinent scientific literature as needed;
- Independently undertake research in the relevant discipline area using the appropriate methods
and/or techniques;
- Collaborate with research colleagues and support staff internally as appropriate to the research and
actively develop appropriate external contacts and networks relevant to the project and to future
funding opportunities;
- Attend, contribute, and where necessary lead relevant meetings;
- Undertake any other duties relevant to the program of research.
Your profile
- Master Degree in computer science or social sciences and management with a focus on technologies
- Experience in data analytics (social network analysis, content analysis etc.)
- Interest in participating in an international research community, attending conferences and publishing
in premier journals
- Excellent self-organization and communication skills
- Fluent in written and verbal English
