The Section for Neuroelectronic Systems at the Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a
Research Associate / PhD Candidate (m/f/d)
to investigate the bio-physical underpinnings of IR stimulation of peripheral nerve
The Section is embedded in the Department of Neurosurgery of the University Medical Center Freiburg and the Cluster of Excellence BrainLinks-BrainTools. We are actively conducting research in Brain-Machine Interfacing by exploring alternatives to electrical stimulation in vitro and in vivo. We are equipped with diverse state of the art electrophysiological recording and stimulation systems, built and improve their hardware, establish high resolution microscopy and utilize cutting edge molecular biology methods. Theranostic pre-clinical imaging with magnetic particles or magnetic resonance is part of our portfolio.
Within the BMBF-funded Project DIAQNOS we are going to re-establish artifact free, light driven stimulation of a peripheral nerve to trace magnetic and biological ramifications of its activity in real world settings.
The offered positions will provide the PhD students with a comprehensive set of skills relevant for innovation and long-term employability in a rapidly growing sector of Biomedical Engineering and Neuroengineering. The candidates are expected to perform research activities independently, and participate in supervision of student theses and contribute to development of future research directions.
Personal qualification:
the candidate should have an excellent master’s degree in the field of biomedical engineering or bio-physics or related disciplines bridging classical faculties; excellent biologists with a strong interest in hardware and technology are welcome to apply as well
knowledge in the field of optics, magnetism, electrophysiology or instrumentation is desirable
FELASA approved training would be an asset
we expect exceptionel interest in conducting in vivo scientific research, team spirit, communication skills and the proven will to work independently
data analysis skills in high level programming environment are required
good speaking and writing skills in English are required, speaking German is optional
The project is predicted to run for 36 months and features a TV-L E13 100 % position.
Applications are requested in English with the usual documents by the "Apply now"-Button.
