Responsibilities
Duties primarily include teaching and research. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
Specific Duties
The candidate will conduct research within the field of sediment biogeochemistry. Potential overarching topics include but are not limited to: organic carbon turnover, preservation and storage in continental margin sediments; land-ocean fluxes and estuarine processes; sedimentary cycling and benthic fluxes of redox-sensitive or bio‑essential elements (e.g., metals, halogens). The research group has recently participated and will be involved in a number of seagoing expeditions, which represent opportunities for the candidate to obtain appropriate sample material.
The candidate will also support the research group in developing new laboratory infrastructure and teaching.
Requirements
A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate.
- doctoral degree and experience in the field of sediment biogeochemistry (field-/laboratory-/modeling-based)
- experience in scientific writing and publication of results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- excellent written and oral communications skills in English are essential
- willingness to participate in seagoing expeditions
