The opportunity
The Institute for Sustainable Urbanism ISU is a think-tank and design laboratory headed by Prof. Dr. Vanessa Miriam Carlow based at TU Braunschweig – one of Germany's nine leading Universities of Technologies. ISU research, teaching, and discourse focus on strategies and tools for sustainable urban development in the context of worldwide urbanization. Building up inter- and transdisciplinary projects within the TU Braunschweig core research area FUTURE CITY

tu-braunschweig.de/stadtderzukunft), ISU teams up with scientists from environmental and social science, engineering, psychology, political science and data science, and cooperates with cities, communities and NGOs worldwide.
To advance innovative research, ISU is currently offering a fixed-term research position for a period of two years with further extension subject to availability of funding. The candidate will be part of the state of the art, multidisciplinary research and competence center on urban research and development rooted in the digital realm – the
ISU SPatial Analytics + Crossdisciplinary Experimentation Lab (» ISUSPACELAB.org). The PhD examines and develops urban design solutions and novel methods, instruments and decision-making tools for an integral, multi-scale, human-centered and participatory urban design and planning practice. In particular, the candidate will be involved in the continued development and organizational set-up of the interdisciplinary Singapore ISUrF Hub
(» ISUrF-Hub.org) to evolve
progressive and explorative urban design research at the interface of urban design and production.
About you
We are looking for exceptional applicants to conduct high impact research with
- a master's degree (or equivalent) in architecture, urban planning or other related disciplines
- proven experience and expertise in the field of urban production and industrial symbiosis and other ISU key research themes and application areas,
- knowledge of programming in any language is preferable,
- ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team,
- excellent interpersonal, organizational and management skills,
- very strong verbal and written communication skills in English and preferably also German,
- experience and commitment to delivering high quality and innovative teaching in the field of sustainable urbanism.
The vacancy consists of a part-time position (up to 80%) for a period of two years, with further employment subject to availability of funding. The remuneration is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and the TV-L 13 pay scale.
