Friedrich Schiller University is seeking to fill the position of a research group leader in the field of ageing research at the earliest possible date. The research group will initially be funded for a minimum of five years by the Carl Zeiss Foundation within the framework of the research network ‘IMPULS’. In addition to the advertised position, funding includes two research associates, a doctoral student and one technical assistant as well as the necessary laboratory equipment, consumables, and travel expenses.
Research group leader with option for a professorship ‘Psychology and epigenetics of ageing’ (m/f/d)
The focus of the research is on the interaction of psychological parameters and biological ageing and thus at the interface between epigenetics and psychology.
Your responsibilities:
- The future research group should address questions of the mutual influence of epigenetic and psychological ageing on the basis of epigenetic expertise
- The candidate is expected to conduct or participate in studies on human subjects and/or studies on suitable model organisms and systems
- We expect the candidate to develop an independent and internationally visible research profile at the Friedrich Schiller University
- By cooperating with other research institutions and partners on campus (Jena University Hospital; Leibniz Institute on Ageing – Fritz Lipmann Institute) complementary research strategies should be established
- Engagement in teaching activities is possible and welcomed
Your profile:
- The successful candidate will have excellent post-doctoral experience in molecular and psychological ageing research
- An internationally recognized research profile should be documented by excellent publications, and ideally by independent acquisition of third-party funding

- Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Federal States (TV-L) at salary scale up to E15 – depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications including a special annual payment in accordance with the collective agreement
- The position will be filled in a process similar to an appointment procedure. Based on a positive evaluation of the candidate’s achievements during the funding period, an extraordinary appointment procedure can be carried out without additional advertisement. Appointment as a university professor can take place if all civil service law requirements are met.
