The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) operates at the Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz-Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching near Munich a suite of high performance
neutron scattering instruments. It provides access to these instruments for scientists from universities and research institutions in Germany and throughout
the world. Within the user program more than 1000 scientists visit the MLZ every year to perform experiments in the physical, chemical, biological and materials
sciences. In addition, JCNS is actively pursuing a research program in the field of soft matter science and condensed matter physics.
The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) operates neutron scattering instruments at the Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz-Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching near Munich. It provides access to these instruments for researchers from Germany and throughout the world. More than 1000 scientists visit the MLZ every year to perform experiments in the physical, chemical, biological and materials sciences. In-house research focuses on soft matter and magnetism.
In the Scientific Computing Group of JCNS at MLZ we develop software for the analysis of scattering experiments. We support instrument users, and participate in exemplary data analyses. We closely cooperate with other European research centres.
We are looking to recruit a
Research Software Engineer
develop open-source software to reduce, visualize, model, and fit experimental data
collaborate in large software projects, and become a leader for small to medium projects
cooperate with instrument scientists to improve data analysis procedures
participate in exemplary studies from experiment through analysis to publication
university degree with subsequent PhD in physics or related fields
experience in scientific software development
sound knowledge of C++ or Python
experience with any of the following is a plus: Linux, Qt, CMake, cross-platform development; git, Github or Gitlab, continuous integration; numerical mathematics, Bayesian analysis, machine learning; condensed-matter physics, scattering, spectroscopy, crystallography

Salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD). Depending on the applicant`s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks, salary grade EG 13 TVöD-Bund.
