The Faculty of Arts of the University of Bonn is seeking to fill the position of a
Schlegel Professorship (W 3) for Romance Philology/
Literary and Cultural Studies
(with a focus on French)
at the Department of Classical and Romance Philology at the earliest opportunity.
A central component of the University of Bonn as part of its excellence strategy
is the implementation of ‘Schlegel Professorships’. These aim to strengthen
future-oriented areas in the faculties and represent the starting point for new
third-party funded initiatives. With a view to this strategic role, the Faculty of
Arts of the University of Bonn announces a “Schlegel Professorship” in the
Department of Romance Studies. This is intended to sustainably strengthen
the research performance of Romance Studies and, in addition, its thematic
connectivity, in particular to the transdisciplinary research areas of the University
of Bonn, “Individuals, Institutions and Societies” and “Past Worlds - Contemporary
Issues. Cultures in Time and Space”. In this respect, the Faculty of Arts sees
Romance Studies as one of its strategic potential areas. In order to achieve this
goal, the “Schlegel Professorship” will have above-average funding.
We are looking for a person who is a leading representative of the discipline
in its entire range in international research and teaching. In French-language
literary and cultural studies, special expertise in the field of modernity to the
present is required. Further research focused on other Romance literatures
and cultures (mainly Italian) are expected.
Required are as well international and interdisciplinary teaching and research
experience, experience in international science organization, the assumption
of management functions in the newly established France Center (“CERC:
Centre Ernst Robert Curtius”), the committed participation in the international
and interdisciplinary teaching and research associations of the department of
Romance Studies, participation in other faculty teaching and research initiatives
and participation in the committees of academic self-government. Experience
in the implementation of competitive third-party funded projects is also expected.
Requirements for applications are a relevant PhD as well as a Habilitation.
Prerequisites for employment are in accordance to Section 36 Higher Education
Act NRW.
