The Scientific Computing and Simulation Department of the Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC) at KIT operates large-scale facilities for scientific High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Data-Intensive Sciences, including the recently inaugurated "High Performance Computer Karlsruhe" (HoreKa), one of the fastest computers in Europe. In November 2020, the SCC was selected as a center for National High-Performance Computing (NHR).
To strengthen our software team, we are looking for a Scientific Software Consultant (f/m/d) as soon as possible:
- You provide optimized versions of scientific and technical applications and libraries to the users on our High-Performance Computers within the National High Performance Computing (NHR@KIT) and the Baden-Württemberg High-Performance Computing (bwHPC) projects, and advise researchers on their efficient use.
- You manage license quotas of commercial software, ensure that they are used as needed, and take care of further licensing.
- You ensure that problems are solved quickly and competently in close coordination with users and other experts.
- You prepare teaching materials and documentation and participate in workshops and training courses.
- You support the review process for scientific computing time allotments on the HPC systems and contribute to the further development of processes and services for user support.
Personal qualification
- You have a university degree (Master) in the Natural Sciences, Engineering, the Computational Sciences, Computer Science or Mathematics.
- Existing experience with the use, installation, and management of common software from various scientific disciplines on parallel high-performance computers is highly advantageous.
- You have basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and ideally software license managers. Existing hands-on experience with Linux server system administration, shell scripting of workflows, and version control is desired.
- You have basic knowledge and experience with programming languages and advanced paradigms.
- You bring good English and basic German language skills.
- Overall, you convince with a high degree of initiative, result orientation and teamwork.
