The Walther group at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Vienna is currently advertising a positions for a PhD-student in experimental quantum photonics and quantum information processing as part of the EU-funded, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “Applications and Hardware for Photonic Quantum Information Processing (AppQInfo)”.
The research of the group (www.quantumphotonics.at) focuses on the development of advanced photonic quantum technology for applications in quantum information processing and for investigations in quantum science. The work will take place in the environment of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ), which is a joint center of the University of Vienna, the Vienna University of Technology, the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Science and Technology Austria, which unites quantum physicists of Vienna’s research institutions in one collaborative center.
The research will cover photonic quantum computation and quantum simulation as well as quantum machine learning and neuromorphic computing. In particular:
o Contribution to the research project
o Contribution to publications / scientific articles
o Contribution to the organisation of conferences and meetings
o We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
o Support of students
A master or diploma degree in physics, technical physics or equivalent qualification and granting access to doctorate studies at the time of recruitment.
Required skills: hands on training in experimental physics. Experience in experimental optics, quantum photonics and quantum computing. It is highly desirable that the candidate has a good background in laser physics, integrated optics or quantum optics, or other general skills for a quantum photonics and information lab. An ideal candidate should be ambitious and hard-working with high motivation for scientific work and strong will for self-development. We expect a good practical knowledge of English (B or C level preferred) and ability to travel within the EU and worldwide.
The applicant must not have resided for more than 12 months prior to signing the contract in the country of the host institute.
