The Department of Demography, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, is looking for a doctoral (preadoc) student who will be part of the ERC consolidator grant team BIC.LATE “Biological, Individual and Contextual factors of fertility recovery”

The doctoral student will particularly focus on the analysis of the individual factors of fertility across ages and over the life course, across country contexts. Excellent quantitative skills as well as a strong interest in the demographic study of fertility will be appreciated.
Applicants should have a clear doctoral intention and demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal skills as well as enthusiasm for excellent research. The preadoc will have the opportunity to conduct scientific research as part of a motivated and committed research team. Duties include participation in the administration of the project.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
- The preadoc will be working on Work Package 2 of BIC.LATE, analysing the individual factors of fertility across ages and countries, as well as partnership and fertility behaviour at later ages.
- Preparation/completion of a dissertation (the conclusion of a doctoral thesis agreement within 9-12 months is expected; see https://vds-sosci.univie.ac.at/doctoral-programme/doctoral-thesis-agreement/ )
- Publication of three or four research articles and presentations in international conferences
- Integration into the research project’s team through collaboration in research
- Involvement in research administration (e.g., preparation of meetings, workshops, conferences, website…).
- The doctoral student will be part of the ViDSS (https://vds-sosci.univie.ac.at/)
Profile:
- Completed master's degree in demography, sociology, another master that includes a demography course, or similar.
- Excellent knowledge of quantitative data analysis
- Knowledge of multilevel analysis and/or event history analysis
- High level of written and oral expression in English
- Interest in the study of fertility in the high-income countries
- Ability to work in a team and social competence
- Good organization in work
- Initiative
- Willingness to continue education and attraction for research
