The newly established research group on climate change and health, led by Professor Sabine Gabrysch, aims to link climate change research at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and human health research at Charité, with a focus on malnutrition. Guided by the transdisciplinary concept of Planetary Health, we assess health and nutrition impacts of global environmental change and evaluate win-win solutions for the transition towards climate-resilient, sustainable and healthy food systems. We are searching for a junior or senior postdoctoral researcher to join our enthusiastic team.
Your area of responsibility:
  • Develop and conduct research projects in the field of climate change and health with a focus on nutrition, e. g. studying the climate-agriculture-nutrition-health pathway, the impact of nutritional stress in utero on long-term health outcomes or health benefits of agroecological approaches
  • Analyze large population-based datasets from household surveys and surveillance sites in low-income settings, including from the Food and Agricultural Approaches to Reducing Malnutrition (FAARM) trial in Bangladesh
  • Carry out transdisciplinary implementation research projects in high- and low-income settings
  • Establish and sustain collaborations with researchers at PIK, Charité and beyond, building bridges between disciplines
  • Develop research proposals and apply for further funding
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of Master and doctoral students
  • Actively participate in academic life at PIK and Charité
  • Contribute to the transfer of research findings into society and politics
Your profile:
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline / subject
  • Documented expertise in epidemiology or public / global health
  • Strong quantitative methodological skills, preferably including advanced statistical methods and a good understanding of key issues in study design
  • Documented expertise in an additional field is highly advantageous, e. g. in medicine, molecular biology, agriculture or ecology
  • Published research articles in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English; German skills advantageous, but not essential
  • Interest and ability to work as part of a multicultural, multidisciplinary team as well as independently
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Desirable is any experience with trials or natural experiments, impact and process evaluation, cross-sectional or longitudinal nutrition data, transdisciplinary research, grant applications, science-policy communication and research in low-income country settings
