Your tasks
We are looking for a motivated and eager-to-learn new colleague with good programming or data science skills. The applicant will use coupled modelling frameworks of the ocean including hydrodynamics, wind waves, biogeochemistry and suspended sediment dynamics to setup cross-sectorial scenario simulations including climate scenarios and multiuse scenarios. The applicant will be trained by our team in state-of-the-art tools and will proceed in close cooperation with the project partners from all over Europe. The position offers an excellent opportunity for an application-oriented entry into Digital Twins initiative, whereby the work within the framework of the EU horizon mission ocean project contributes directly to the goals of the European Green Deal Initiative.Your profile
- a Master’s Degree and PhD in (ocean) modelling (e.g. oceanograohy, physics, mathematics, computer science, data science biogeochemistry, meteorology)
- capacity and interest to work in different fields of marine science including physics, biogeochemistry, ecological processes, environmental engineering
- very good written and verbal English communication skills are required
- good communication skills for communicating results to different audience including general public in relation to dissemination activities

The Institute for Coastal Systems Analysis and Modeling
studies the dynamics of coastal systems as part of the Earth system and develops prediction methods and future scenarios for coastal systems. One focus of our research is the study of coastal ecosystems, which are subject to increasing pressure to change due to climate change, use of coastal environments, and other human drivers.

Arbeiten bei Helmholtz - Spitzenforschung als Beitrag zu Wachstum und Wohlstand
Aus dem 1958 gegründeten "Arbeitsausschuss für Verwaltungs- und Betriebsfragen der deutschen Reaktorstationen" entwickelten sich innerhalb von 40 Jahren die lose verbundenen Forschungszentren der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft. Namensgeber für die Gemeinschaft war einer der größten Naturwissenschaftler des 19. Jahrhunderts: Hermann von Helmholtz. Als einer der letzten Universalgelehrten verstand es Helmholtz, naturwissenschaftliche Forschung in die technologische Praxis zu führen und so Brücken zwischen den Forschungsfeldern Medizin, Physik und Chemie zu schlagen.
Als größte Wissenschaftsorganisation Deutschlands beschäftigt die Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft in ihren 18 naturwissenschaftlich-technischen und biologisch-medizinischen Forschungszentren mehr als 33.000 Mitarbeiter. In den sechs Forschungsbereichen Energie, Erde und Umwelt, Gesundheit, Schlüsseltechnologien, Struktur der Materie sowie Luftfahrt, Raumfahrt und Verkehr kooperieren die Helmholtz-Wissenschaftler im Sinne der Nachhaltigkeit untereinander und mit externen Partnern. Ziel der Arbeit der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ist die Schaffung tragfähiger Grundlagen für die Gestaltung der Zukunft.
