The German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) is a National Research Centre located in the city of Leipzig and jointly hosted by the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU), the University of Leipzig (UL), and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). Its central mission is to promote theory-driven synthesis and data-driven theory in this emerging field.

We’re seeking to fill a

Scientist position (f/m) in the field of biodiversity, ecosystem services and health

working time: 100% (39 hours per week), initially limited from 1 Dec 2016 until 30 Nov 2018 (with possibility of extension)

Your tasks:
  • Lead development of an independent scientific review study and a research programme on biodiversity, ecosystem services and health
  • Evaluation of health benefits of urban green in collaboration with ongoing long-term health studies
  • Organisation of the scientific programme and evaluation of an international research conference in 2017 by the German Federal Agency of Conservation (BfN)
  • Validation of the review study results and conference outcomes through discussion in a wider circle of experts from the fields of science, policy and practice
  • Contribution to national and international research collaboration networks and external funding acquisition
  • High-quality scientific outputs in the form of journal publications and contribution to relevant high-level policy and practice reports
Your profile:
  • A degree in environmental sciences or in social / health sciences ideally coupled with experience in the field of ecosystem research
  • Good publication record
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, proficiency in advanced statistical methods
  • Experience in conference or workshop organisation desirable
  • Working knowledge in GIS analysis and ecosystem service modeling desirable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (German appreciated)
  • Excellent team player, high motivation and good organisational skills, interest to work in an interdisciplinary team and ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders essential
