The 'Munich Center for the Economics of Aging' (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for
Social Law and Social Policy offers a full-time position as a
Survey Specialist (m/f/d)
in the research project Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE).
The position is limited to a one-year contract as a substitute for an employee on
SHARE is the largest social science panel study in Europe. The data set combines extensive
cross-national information on socio-economic status, health, and family relations of Europe's
elder population. Also, an in-depth cognitive assessment and an interview on the consequences
of the corona pandemic are being developed and fielded in addition.
The responsibilities would consist of multiple tasks:
Preparation of future waves of data collection, including methodological advice, testing
of software tools, and fieldwork preparations (Organization of Train-The-Trainer meetings)
Developing and managing test routines for the CAPI and CATI software and data
Country Team support on translation and testing
Pursue own research ideas and produce peer reviewed papers, either on substantive or
The ideal candidate would bring the following qualifications:
University degree in social sciences, psychology, economics, public health, epidemiology,
demography, statistics, or a related field
Experience with questionnaire development, translation procedures and handling translation
Experience with survey data, preferably with SHARE data
Extensive knowledge of quantitative data analysis and statistical software (Stata, SPSS,
etc.) and MS Office applications
Excellent command of spoken and written English; other languages are welcome
Self-organized & highly proactive working style
Team player mentality
Interest in own research on substantive or methodological topics
We welcome both pre- and post-doc applicants. Part-time work is also possible. Compensation
will be in accordance with German TVöD. A generous benefits package complements

is Munich. A prolongation of the contract may be possible but is dependent on future
