As part of the career development programme for junior researchers funded by the
German federal and state governments, Saarland University is inviting applications for
the following tenure-track junior professorship
commencing 1 November 2020 latest.
These positions will initially be fixed-term public sector positions ('Beamtenverhältnis auf
Zeit') for a period of three or four years. The duration of the appointment may be extended
up to a maximum of six years in total if this is supported by the results of the teaching
appraisal and the external assessment of the appointee's research work. If performance
continues to meet the required standards and if the tenure evaluation procedure is
positive, the junior professor (at the German academic salary scale W1) will be promoted
to a permanent professorship (lifetime tenure) at the German academic salary scale W2.

Molecular Cell Biophysics (Ref. No. 1627)
Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology
Applicants will be expected to have excellent scientific credentials including internationally
respected publications in an area of current interest in experimental cell biophysics.
The candidate's research should be aimed at understanding the physical properties
of living cells. Specific areas of study might include mechanochemical processes
in cell membranes, cytoskeletal dynamics, cell differentiation, tissue formation or
morphogenesis. The successful candidate will be expected to make an active contribution
to the collaborative research centre SFB 1027 'Physical modelling of non-equilibrium
processes in biological systems'.
The appointee will work in an interfaculty centre for biophysics and will be required to
carry out teaching duties in the fields of experimental biophysics and cell biology. The
successful applicant will also be expected to undertake university-related administrative
duties commensurate with the position held.
The appointment will be made in accordance with the general provisions of German public
sector employment law. Candidates will be university graduates, preferably in the field
of physics, with experience in and an aptitude for academic teaching who have shown a
particular capacity for independent academic research, generally through the outstanding
quality of their PhD or doctorate. Following the legal provisions the applicant's doctorate
and the employment as a PostDoc together should not exceed six years.
