University Assistant (post doc) at the Computational Materials Physics
The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 179 fields of study, approx. 10.000 members of staff, about 90.000 students) seeks to fill the position from 01.01.2022 of a
University Assistant (post doc)
at the Computational Materials Physics
Reference number: 12497
Within the laboratory of Prof. Franchini we apply and develop first principles methods for the study of surface science, in particular: (i) energetics; (ii) structural properties; (iii) reactions; (iv) electronic properties (charge transfer, bands, DOS); (v) dynamics (MD and NEB); (vi) simulations of STM, AFM, TPD spectra; (vii) machine learning and computer vision tools to accelerated search and automatized processing of experimental images. The research group works in close collaboration with a few experimental group aiming to understand and predict novel properties of transition metal oxide surfaces.
Your tasks are active participation in research, teaching, and administration. This includes-developing and strengthening your independent research profile-participation in research collaborations-assistance in research grant proposals-independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreemnet-assistance in administration-supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD students-paticipations in evaluation measures and quality assurance.
PhD in computational surface science using first principles simulations. Knowledge of available materials science packages (preferentially VASP) and ability to write own softwares to simulate experimentally measurable data including quantum-mechanical effects. Experience in establishing and leading scientific discussions with experimental colleagues. Well-established track record of publication in computational surface science and in joint theory-experiment collaborations.
