The Department of Astrophysics is part of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy at the University of Vienna. Presently about 70 employees work at the department.
The advertised post doc position is associated with the chair for 'data science in astrophysics' of Prof. Oliver Hahn. Our group has privileged access to the Vienna Scientific Cluster supercomputing facility, and support for travel funds is available.
Duration of employment: 3 year/s
Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration; in particular:
The successful candidate will contribute actively to the research profile of both the Department for Astrophysics and the Department of Mathematics, and will teach courses in astrophysics or/and applied mathematics as defined by the collective agreement. The candidate is expected to supervise students (in particular carry out mentoring of master and co-mentoring of PhD students) and assist in the continuous assessment and development of the teaching programme.
Profile:
A Doctoral degree / PhD or similar qualification is required for all candidates as well as experience in research and teaching. Past research should be documented by publications in recognized scientific journals.
We are looking for a highly qualified researcher with interests and research experience in numerical and/or statistical modelling in cosmology and extragalactic astrophysics. Researchers with a strong background in cosmological simulations or machine learning applied to cosmology/astrophysics are particularly encouraged to apply.

- international experience preferable.
