The Department of Cognitive Biology , Prof. Thomas Bugnyar, is seeking a temporary post doc replacement with expertise on social cognition in birds - esp. corvids or a related field. Possibility of an extension of the contract is given. We are a young and enthusiastic team and offer a creative working atmosphere, flexible working times and a suitable salary.
The position is vacant for the period of absence of a member of staff.
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves - Developing and strengthening the independent research profile - Involvement in research projects / research studies - International publications and presentations - Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding - Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement - Supervision of students - Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance - Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration. Your area of responsibility includes the design and execution of research projects in the field of social cognition in birds (main focus on corvids) as well as the publication of results in international peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore we would expect your collaboration and support in already ongoing projects at our field stations at Grünau (Core Facility KLF) and Haidlhof.
PhD in the field of Biology, Psychology or related disciplines - Excellent knowledge in social behaviour cognition particularly in birds - Documented publication activity in peer-reviewed journals - Excellent command of the English language
High ability to cope with pressure - Good team-working ability - Willingness to travel/to work at our field stations - Hands on ability. In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have - Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning - Experience of working on research projects - Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards) - International presentation experience. Desirable qualifications are - Knowledge of university processes and structures - Experience abroad - Experience in supervising students.
