at the Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science

TER, the Division of Terrestrial Ecosystem Research at the Center for Microbiology and Environmental System Science, intends to strengthen its expertise in the area of soil science at the interface with microbiology and environmental processes, and has an open group leader position for a scientist with a PhD degree possessing strong expertise in this field. We are a committed team and offer a creative, intellectually stimulating and international working environment.
Your area of responsibility includes the design and execution of your own research projects in soil science that fit to the overall goals of TER and the establishment of your own research group, as well as the publication of results in international peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore, we expect your collaboration in already ongoing projects at TER and your participation in teaching and supervision of students.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in ecology, soil science, or a similar area and at least one year of professional experience.
Applicants must demonstrate an excellent knowledge in at least one of the following four areas:
• soil (micro-)structure and its relation to soil organic matter turnover
(e.g., aggregation, organo-mineral complexes)
• application of stable isotopes in soil ecology
(specifically knowledge of the application of NanoSIMS would be an advantage)
• soil organic matter chemistry (e.g., solid-state NMR, pyr-GC/MS, NEXAFS, XANES)
• modelling of soil organic matter dynamics
Additionally, we expect applicants to have documented publication activity in (prominent) peer-reviewed journals. A proven record in acquiring third-party funds is an advantage. Experience in teaching and supervision of students is also desirable. An excellent command of the English language and good team-working ability is self-evident.
