The Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is comprised of 15 groups that conduct internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology and environmental systems science. Currently headed by Univ.-Prof. Michael Wagner, the Centre assembles an international, ambitious and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere. The Centre's Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science has a research focus on the microbiology of the nitrogen cycle and in the framework of this focus, we are searching for a University assistant (post doc) with outstanding expertise in the field of long-read sequencing technologies (Oxford Nanopore, PacBio), environmental metagenomics and bioinformatics to support the Departments research efforts.
The candidate will contribute to the research goals of the Department as a postdoctoral researcher with particular emphasis on the development and implementation of long-read sequencing methods and data analysis. The candidate is expected to develop and apply high-throughput long-read sequencing workflows, and participate in the analysis of metagenomics analysis of datasets from highly complex environmental systems, with a particular focus on the identification and genomic characterization of microorganisms involved in nitrogen cycling. The candidate is expected to actively participate in research, teaching, and administration. This includes involvement in research projects/research studies, international publications, and presentations at seminars, workshops and conferences. The supervision of students and teaching as regulated by the collective agreement is expected. We invite applicants to submit their curriculum vitae, letter of intent, and diplomas.
Successful candidates should have a doctoral degree in microbiology, biotechnology or bioinformatics, and several years of research experience (international experience is preferred) in the generation and analysis of metagenomics data. An advanced level of experience with, in particular, long-read sequencing technologies is required. A publication record in international peer-reviewed journals documenting these skills is expected.
Good communication skills in English (written and spoken) are mandatory. The ability to work in a team is essential.
