University Assistant (post doc) at the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information
The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 178 fields of study, approx. 9.800 members of staff, about 90.000 students) seeks to fill the position from 01.03.2021 of a
University Assistant (post doc)
at the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information
Reference number: 11752
The Quantum Nanophysics group is directed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Markus Arndt. They explore universal matter-wave interferometry and nanomechanics, to test the foundations of quantum science and to develop new quantum experiments. We are now seeking to hire a University Assistant (Postdoc) to work on nanoparticle cooling in preparation for new matter-wave experiments at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Vienna.
The candidate shall participate in the conduction, evaluation and exploitation of new experiments that aim at the launching, cooling and optically manipulating the motion of particles in the mass range of 0.1 - 10 MDa. The experiments aim at advancing high-mass matter-wave interferometry with widely separated beams and long coherence times.
The candidate will be involved in independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement and in the supervision of students.
The candidate is expected to support the group in their self-organization and research administration on equal footing with senior scientists in the group.
The candidate should have a PhD in physics as well as an outstanding track record as an experimentalist, with a background in quantum optics, vacuum technology, scientific data acquisition and processing, laser science, and general skills for a quantum lab.
The candidate must have an excellent command of written and spoken English.
