at the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information

Professor Walther's research group is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information group at the Faculty of Physics. The group's research focus is dedicated to photonic quantum computers and quantum clouds in quantum networks, as well as photonic quantum simulators capable of providing insight into other quantum systems. For our further reinforcement we are looking for a University Assistant PostDoc.
The research will take place in the environment of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ), which is a joint center of the University of Vienna, the Vienna University of Technology, the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Science and Technology Austria, which unites quantum physicists of Vienna’s research institutions in one collaborative center.
Duration of employment: 6 year/s
Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves
- Developing and strengthening the independent research profile
- Involvement in research projects / research studies
- International publications and presentations
- Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- Doctoral degree/PhD degree Physics
- Professional competence in quantum information, quantum cryptography and quantum photonics
- Methodological competence in quantum optics experiments, single-photon sources, and in particular quantum-dot single-photon sources, photonic quantum entanglement
- Didactic competence: motivated to teach and communicate knowledge to students
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Experience of working on research projects
- Experience in the administration of international research projects
- Background in quantum cryptographic protocols related to quantum money
- Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards)
- International presentation experience

- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Experience abroad
- Experience of supervising students
