at the Research Platform The Stress of Life - Processes and Mechanisms underlying Everyday Life Stress

We offer a full-time position for a university assistant (post doc) at the University Research Platform ´Stress of Life (SOLE) – Processes and Mechanisms underlying Everyday Life Stress´, which brings together top researchers from various disciplines, i.e. psychology, biology, sports science, and the humanities. The platform addresses the following questions: a) How is (everyday life) stress defined and how can an updated working model of stress be achieved? b) What are the optimal methods and measures to adequately capture (everyday life) stress? c) How can clearly defined psychological and biological mechanisms be examined both under controlled laboratory conditions and in an ecologically valid setting? d) Are there specific properties of stimuli and/or situations that might elicit a (specific) stress response? e) What are the positive effects of (everyday life) stress? f) How can insights gained from a) to e) be used for the prevention and treatment of stress-related illness? g) What are the basic differences between and congruencies in the animal and human (everyday life) stress response? h) Which statistical models are optimal to capture the dynamics of (everyday life) stress? The post-doc will be both scientifically and structurally involved in the platform. He or she will be instrumental in coordinating the conceptual and theoretical development of a modern and updated theory/model of everyday life stress. A major task will be to develop and prepare a population-based study, the Vienna Everyday Life Study. Further, he or she will serve as research coordinator for seed grant projects and other projects related to SOLE.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching, and administration. This involves:
- Developing and strengthening a research profile in the field of everyday life stress, with a particular focus on ecologically valid research settings
- Involvement in research projects / research studies
- International publications and presentations
- Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
- Preparing / writing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis or equivalent
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Involvement in the platform administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- Doctoral degree/PhD degree
- Experimental/ecological momentary assessment (EMA) research skills
- Experience in research on stress
- Experience in student supervision (Bachelor/ Master's theses)
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Ability to work in a team
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have:
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Experience of working in research projects
- Publications in renowned, subject-relevant journals (peer-reviewed)
- International presentation experience
Desirable qualifications are:
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Experience abroad
- Experience in stress-related biology
