The Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is comprised of 15 groups that conduct internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology and environmental systems science. The Centre's Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science assembles an international, ambitious and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere.
The Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science is searching for a University Assistant ("prae doc") with expertise in the field of host-microbe interaction to support the Department's research efforts. The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
The candidate will contribute to the research goals of the Department as a pre-doctoral researcher with particular emphasis on bacterial symbionts of protists. The candidate is expected to be well-versed in microbiology and in methods used for the cultivation-independent identification of microbes. Experience with the cultivation of protists and with studying amoeba-associated symbionts is an advantage. The candidate is expected to actively participate in research, teaching, and administration. This includes involvement in research projects/research studies, international publications, and presentations at seminars, workshops and conferences. The supervision of students and teaching as regulated by the collective agreement is expected. we expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
Profile:
Successful candidates should have a Masters degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related field, and research experience in symbioses research. Very good communication skills in English (written and spoken) are mandatory. The ability to work in a team is essential.
