The Department of Political Science, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, addresses all major fields of political science. It is dedicated to innovative and problem-oriented research and provides students with a wide range of specialisations. Members of the Department study the transformation of governance, statehood and democracy across different policy areas, geographical regions and political areas.
The employment is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to 4 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-extension within the first 12 months.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration in the field of comparative policy analysis and qualitative methods as well as in the research group CeSCoS (“Centre for the Study of Contemporary Solidarity”, led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Barbara Prainsack). This involves, in particular, the participation in the organisation of events, seminars, and other formats of academic collaboration and exchange:
- Participation in research projects and research funding applications
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement (approval of PhD research proposal) within 12-18 months
- Participation in teaching and teaching courses independently according to the collective bargaining agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposia
- Participation in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- University degree (master’s degree or equivalent degree) in the field of political science or a similar discipline with relevance for political science
- Proven expertise in comparative policy analysis
- Interest in scholarship on practices and institutions of solidarity
- Good knowledge of qualitative methods
- Basic knowledge of quantitative methods
- Didactic competence
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications are
- Expertise in the field of political economy
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- International experience
- Basic experience in academic research
