at the Electronic Properties of Materials

The Group Electronic Properties of Materials at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Vienna searches excellent candidates for the subgroup Low Dimensional Quantum Solids. The Group of Electronic Properties of Materials at the Faculty of Physics is a comitted team of scientists with the main research focus on low dimensional quantum solids. We dedicate great part of our research to pristine carbon based molecular structures. We aim understanding with parameters control their electron structure before one starts to subsequently engineer their properties via different functionalization paths.
The employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 4 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects /research studies
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 months and to become an active member of the Vienna Doctoral School of Physics (VDSP)
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meeting, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
- Independence research on low dimensional quantum solids of the research unit Electronic Properties of Materials

Profile:
- MSc or equivalent in a field of study of or related to the doctoral project. This requirement needs to be fulfilled until the start of the employment.

- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Basic experience in research methods and academic writing
- Well established experience in experimental and/or theoretical understanding of advanced low dimensional materials such as carbon nanostructures is desired. In addition, a sound knowledge of experimental and theoretical background in solid state spectroscopy with focus on optical and Raman spectroscopy and/or photoemission spectroscopy and/or Electron Energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) is beneficial.
