Data Science @ Uni Vienna is a new research platform at the University of Vienna that presents a hub on all activities in data science at the University of Vienna. We have an opening for an enthusiastic PhD student to establish an interdisciplinary research environment. The PhD student will be hosted at the faculty of mathematics.
The research group at the University of Vienna lead by Prof. Dr. Philipp Grohs focuses on the fields of deep learning algorithms, machine learning and signal processing.
The new research platform Data Science @ Uni Vienna is linked to various faculties including the faculty of mathematics as well as the faculty of computer sciences at the University of Vienna. Prof. Dr. Philipp Grohs is one of the board members and currently looking for an university assistant (prae doc), who should engage in the current research projects at the platform. The applicant should aim to write his/her PhD dissertation in the field of mathematics of data science or machine learning.
Applicants should have exceptional promise, or a proven record of research achievement, within the field of Data Science. They should also provide strong evidence of their potential to make a significant contribution to substantial state-of-the-art scientific research questions in this particular research field.
It is expected that the prae-doc will sign a doctoral thesis agreement within the first 12 to 18 months.
Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
Applicant must hold a master's degree in Mathematics, Computer Sciences or related fields and must have achieved excellence in data science and numerical analysis.
Desirably, applicants should have expertise in the following fields:
- Machine Learning
- Signal Processing
- Numerical Analysis
