Job Description:
- Participation in research, and administration; option to participate in teaching - Participation in research projects / research studies - Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations - We expect the successful candidate to sign a PhD agreement within 6 months - Prae-doc positions in Austria.
In Austria, PhD candidates are expected to combine their PhD studies with being an active member of an academic team, taking part in research, administrative, dissemination activities (e.g. talks and media work). They are contracted for 30 hours a week and, for this position, have 3 years to complete their PhD. The University of Vienna has a collective bargaining agreement that sets out the roles, responsibilities and rights of all prae-docs to ensure they are able to successfully blend their PhD studies with these other tasks. A major advantage of this approach is that it provides a wide range of academic experiences and roles, and enhances employability prospects at the end of the PhD. In order to provide time to settle in, the PhD agreement only needs to be finalised 6 months into the post, allowing the applicants and supervisors time to work out the precise details of the research to be developed. The supervisors for this post have worked internationally and so are highly familiar with different systems and will be able to support applicants with or without previous experience of the Austrian system.
The position is part of a project of the research platform PLENTY of the University of Vienna and is located in terms of content and personnel in the social science group within PLENTY. More detailed information on the research project and the position:
