The Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is comprised of 21 groups that conduct internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology and environmental systems science. The Centre assembles an international, ambitious, and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere. The Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic PhD student in the field of functional ecology of soil fauna.
The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.

Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This includes:
+ Involvement in a research project on elucidating the mechanisms by which soil animals (millipedes, woodlice, snails, earthworms) affect soil carbon dynamics in the context of global change
+ Publications and presentations
+ Involvement in project applications for third-party funding
+ Teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
+ Supervision of trainees and students
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within the first year of employment.
Profile:
+ Diploma or master?s degree in biology, molecular biology, or equivalent qualification
+ Excellent command of written and spoken English
+ High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
+ Excellent team-working ability
+ MSc in Ecosystem Ecology
+ Experience with concepts and methods in soil fauna ecology, soil microbiology, soil processes, plant-soil interactions, and global change biology is desirable
Methodological competences (one or more of the following):
+ field and laboratory skills in soil ecology and biogeochemistry
+ experience in soil fauna identification/characterization
+ experience in soil microbial analyses
+ experience in stable isotope ecology
+ statistical skills using R
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have very good communication and organizational skills.
