The Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology at the University of Göttingen is seeking to fill a permanent professorship with civil servant status (grade W2 NBesO) at the earliest possible date:
W2 Professorship in
Forest entomology (f/m/d)
The professorship represents the field of forest zoology in its entire breadth with a strong focus on forest entomologically relevant species and their interactions in forest ecosystems. Research shall lie at the intersection of population biology of relevant species, their multitrophic interactions with hosts, mutualists and antagonists, and/or the chemo‐ecological or evolutionary regulation of such interactions ‐ against the background of changes in initial conditions and interactions due to climate change, biodiversity loss and invasive species. Research shall substantially strengthen the faculty foci on "Sustainable and Multifunctional Use and Management of Forests" and "Sustainable Forestry and Global Change". Methodological emphasis should be placed in one or more areas of quantitative organismal, chemo‐ecological, molecular, behavioural, evolutionary, and/or modelling analysis of forest insects. We are looking for a team player and dedicated person with demonstrated expertise in entomology, chemo‐ecology, zoology, biology, landscape ecology, or a related discipline. The professorship is expected to play an active role in collaborative research at the University of Göttingen and to possess leadership skills.
The position entails the following teaching responsibilities: Subject‐specific contributions in the bachelor and master programs of the faculty, especially in the bachelor programs "Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology" and "Ecosystem Sciences under Global Change" as well as in the master program "Forest Management and Forest Utilization". Due to the international profile of the professorship and the students, some of the courses are to be held in English and German. It is expected that the professorship will actively participate in the further internationalization of the courses offered. The university emphasizes research‐oriented teaching.
