The
Junior Professorship of East Asian Law conducts interdisciplinarily informed and internationally connected research in comparative law that is dedicated to solving important socioeconomic issues. In its studies of Japan, it sets a focus on laws and policies governing technological and ecological change, dealing with crises and catastrophes, and achieving sustainability and justice. Across jurisdictions and all areas of law, its interest lies in the relationships between law and risk and law and innovation.
The
Department of Japanese Law at the Institute for International Legal Relations draws on a history of 30 years of teaching and research in Japanese law. It is globally connected and its Foundations of Japanese Law continuing education program is unique in Europe and beyond. Contract duration:
We offer you a 50 % position for the purpose of pursuing your further academic qualification, including the option of a doctorate, with a contract term of up to 3 years. The contract duration is based on your personal requirements and goals. We will endeavor to secure your continued employment until you have completed your desired qualification or to allow you to pursue further qualifications.
Your tasks:
- Academic collaboration in the research fields named above (including research, library work, translation, and editorial tasks)
- Revision of study materials and support with teaching (online and in person, LL.M. and study course)
- Assistance with general administrative, correspondence and organizational tasks
- Support with preparing and administering exams as well as supervising students (general advice as well as advice on seminar and master's theses)
Qualification profile:
- You have at least the first state examination in law, preferably with an above-average result, a Master of Laws, preferably with a final grade of "good" or better, or an equivalent degree from an international university (see section 6 of the current doctoral degree regulations of the FernUniversität in Hagen's Faculty of Law). Alternatively, you have completed a university degree with a close connection to the subject (e. g. Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, Administration, Political Science or Economics. In this case, it is not possible to obtain a doctorate from the Faculty of Law; please contact us anyway).
- At least solid, proven knowledge of spoken and written Japanese
- Research interest in the legal issues mentioned above and in Japan's politics and society
- Proof of excellent knowledge of English and basic knowledge of German
- An independent, self-reliant, reliable and diligent working style
