Heidelberg University invites excellent researchers (f/m/d) at the interface of physics and mathematics to apply for a
Full Professorship (W3) in “Mathematical Physics” (f/m/d)
to be filled at the earliest possible date.Applicants should have made important, internationally recognized contributions to mathematical physics. Special attention will be given to candidates who can demonstrate their ability to enhance and complement the existing ties between physics and mathematics at Heidelberg University, in particular connecting classical and quantum field theory and complex systems theory with analysis, combinatorics, geometry, information theory, or stochastics.
The new professor will be a member of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. The appointee is expected to play an important role in further enhancing the research connections between mathematics and physics in general, and strengthening the research directions established by the Excellence Cluster STRUCTURES in particular.
Teaching duties include the mathematics education of bachelor and master students in physics, as well as core and specialized courses for undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics or physics. The new professor will have teaching and supervision privileges in both departments.
Prerequisites for an application are (in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 1 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg) a university degree, a qualified doctorate, successful teaching experience and (in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg) a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or equivalent qualifications.
