The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, through the Department of Computer Science, invites applications for up to two tenured and excellently equipped

Full Professorships (W3) in Artificial lntelligence
and Machine Learning

to be filled as soon as possible as strategic flagship positions within the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

The Lamarr Institute brings together all Al activities of University of Bonn and its founding partners with significant growth based on permanent institutional funding as part of Germany's national Al excellence initiative.

Applicants are expected to have demonstrated internationally outstanding research in one or more relevant subfields of Artificial Intelligence with a strong focus on Machine Learning, related to one or more of the Lamarr Institute’s research areas. For this call, we particularly welcome profiles in emerging and strategic topics such as foundational AI and world models, edge AI and efficient models, agentic and reflective intelligence, embodied AI and hybrid ML.

The successful applicant will be appointed as a tenured full professor (W3) within the Institute of Computer Science. Dual-career appointments are possible for suitable candidates.

The successful applicant will establish and lead an internationally visible research program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and contribute to teaching within the degree programs of the Institute of Computer Science, including the Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence.

Beyond its integration into the Lamarr Institute, the professorship will benefit from Bonn’s broader excellence environment, including potential scientific links to relevant TRAs, Clusters of Excellence such as PhenoRob, ML4Q, HCM, DYNAVERSE, Color meets Flavor, and ImmunoSensation, and the ELLIS Unit NRW.

In addition to close cooperation within our partner institutions, we expect the capability of positioning the Lamarr Institute towards society and industry and willingness to contribute to the institute's strategic responsibilities. The acquisition of third-party research funds and participation in and contribution to joint grant activities in computer science are requested.

Teaching is an integral part of the professorship and covers all levels of the degree programs in German and English. A high-quality teaching concept is expected. Non-native speakers are expected to be able to teach in German within a reasonable time frame. Active participation in academic self-administration is
expected.

The recruitment requirements are based on § 36 HG (NRW).
