Discovering the new, driving projects forward, taking on responsibility: at Bonn-Rhein Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS), we want our employees to do just that. Together with more than 1,000 colleagues, we find new solutions for and suitable responses to the diverse challenges of our time. Around 9,000 students from more than 100 nations are currently enrolled in around 40 degree programmes at the H-BRS. We constantly strive to make the H-BRS better – would you like to take up the challenge?

We are looking to recruit a

Fully funded PhD position in supply chain simulation (d/m/f)

in the Department of Management Sciences starting on 1 January 2026 at our Sankt Augustin campus.

Digital twins are considered a key technology of Industry 4.0. They make it possible to represent complex supply chains transparently, increase their resilience, and track sustainability goals in measurable ways. In the DINGOL research project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and Conet, we are developing - together with the University of Applied Sciences Reutlingen - an open framework for Digital Supply Chain Twins (DSCT). This provides the foundation for companies to simulate and optimize supply chains in real time and align them with sustainability criteria.

The successful applicant will
  • participate in an innovative, publicly funded research project.
  • develop a digital twin for supply chains in cooperation with university and corporate partners.
  • present research results at national and international conferences.
  • contribute to scientific publications (as part of a cooperative doctorate).
  • supervise students within the scope of the project.
The successful applicant should
  • hold an above average university degree in Business Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • have initial experience in software development and ideally in supply chain management.
  • demonstrate analytical thinking, enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration, and work independently.
  • have proficiency in English (C1-level) and, ideally, German, both spoken and written.
  • are willing and motivated to pursue a doctorate (PhD).
What the University as an employer offers:
  • An exciting and varied job in a modern environment, remunerated according to Remuneration Group 13 TV-L and limited until 30 June 2029. The position is a full-time position and is also suitable for part-time work.
  • Reliability: Payment in accordance with the tariff salary agreement and a company pension scheme give you financial security now and in the future. You are entitled to 30 days annual leave and 24 December, 31 December and Carnival Monday are also days off.
  • Professional Development: We greatly value your professional and personal development and offer a wide range of training and development opportunities. You will be working in an innovative and dynamic academic institution with people from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds. As an employee, you can also take part in an Erasmus-funded stay abroad.
  • Work-life-balance and health management: We offer flexible working time models, working from home and family-friendly working conditions. Our comprehensive health programme promotes fitness and relaxation – even during your working hours.
  • Our work ethics: As a research and educational institution, we are dedicated to tackling current global issues, taking on social responsibility and promoting innovation – we work together to find solutions. Sustainability is more than just a word for us.
H-BRS is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. Applications from women are particularly welcome. Women with equal aptitude, qualifications and professional experience will be given preferential consideration. H-BRS is a certified family-friendly university – and we are proud of this. Inclusion is important to the University and differently-abled persons are welcome as colleagues.

If you have any further questions about the position, please contact Prof. Robert Grüter email robert.grueter@h-brs.de. Equal opportunities officers and representatives for disabled persons are involved in the process and will be happy to answer your questions in advance. Information and contact persons can be found under Equal Opportunities, Family-Friendly University and Disability.
Join us as a colleague at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) and apply online by 14 December 2025 (Reference no. 64/25).
