Call for Applications: The Ethics of Global Governance Einstein Forum Fellowship Program in cooperation with the Karl Schlecht Foundation
The Einstein Forum in Potsdam, Germany, invites applications for two six-month research fellowships (starting April 1 / October 1, 2027) on the theme “The Ethics of Global Governance”.The program starts from the conviction that ethical questions are central to any viable form of global governance. Among the questions fellows might address are:
- How can economic development be reconciled with climate responsibility and global justice?
- What moral obligations do present generations have toward future generations?
- How can democratic participation and accountability coexist with the need for global coordination?
- How can national sovereignty be reconciled with transnational responsibilities?
- What ethical principles should govern migration, displacement, and humanitarian intervention?
- How should emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital surveillance be governed across national borders?
- On what basis can international law claim legitimacy, and how can its effective enforcement be justified?
The fellowship is residential. Fellows are expected to be regularly present at the Einstein Forum and to participate actively in its intellectual life, including public events and internal discussions. In addition to pursuing their individual research projects, the fellows will jointly develop and organize a two-day public workshop in cooperation with the Einstein Forum.
Eligibility and Funding
The program is open to scholars in the humanities and social sciences at any stage of their career after completion of the doctorate. Each fellowship includes a stipend of € 20,000 for the six-month period, accommodation in Potsdam, and a fully equipped workspace at the Einstein Forum. Fellows are responsible for arranging their own visa, health insurance, and other necessary insurance coverage.
Application
Applications may be submitted in English or German and should include a research proposal of no more than 1,200 words, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and one letter of recommendation. Applicants should indicate whether they prefer to begin their fellowship in April or October 2027.
