The Botanical Institute of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Kiel University invites applications for a
W 2-Professorship in Plant Genetics
to start at the earliest possible time.
The future job holder should represent the field of plant genetics in research and teaching.
We are searching for a scientist with an excellent international track record and pioneering research activities in the fields of plant genetics, such as the regulation of stress responses in natural environments and the role of epigenetic factors in stress adaptations. We are looking for a scientist with a focus on fundamental aspects of plant genetics through research work with plants in relation to their natural habitat. The particular expertise in research is underpinned by outstanding publications and successful acquisition of third-party funded projects.
The applicant will conduct research on the topic of stress responses that can be thematically integrated into existing or future research networks at the CAU or that usefully complement the CAU's research priorities, such as the CAU research priorities Kiel Life Science (https://www.kls.uni-kiel.de/) or Kiel Marine Science (https://www.kms.uni-kiel.de/) and the research programs integrated into these, such as the research unit FOR5640 (https://www.plantscochallenge.de) or the collaborative research center SFB 1182 (https://www.metaorganism-research.com/).
Experience in teaching botany in German and English is expected. In addition, experience in teaching eukaryotic genetics is expected, and experience in teaching human genetics is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching of botany and human genetics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.The teaching commitment is based on the respective valid state ordinance on teaching commitments at universities (LVVO) of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The applicant should also have experience in academic responsibilities. Experience with research networks (e. g. DFG Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups or similar) and convincing concepts for the promotion of diversity, equality and family in your own working group are also desirable.
The professorship is associated with membership of the Board of Directors of the Botanical Institute and the Botanical Garden of the CAU. Participation in the administration of the Institute, in the committees of the Biology Section, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the CAU is expected.
Further requirements for the application are a completed university degree, a habilitation or a comparable scientific qualification or junior professorship, and experience in the management of a scientific working group.
