Munich Data Science Institute
Technical University of Munich
Effective immediately, on a full-time basis TRR356 – PlantMicrobe is seeking a
Data Steward (m/f/d) at the Munich Data Science Institute
im Hochschulreferat für Forschungsförderung und Technologietransfer (TUM ForTe).
About Us
The TRR356 initiative and the Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI) are looking for a committed Data Steward to act as a bridge
between experimental biologists and bioinformaticians.
The recently founded Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI) is an Integrative Research Institute at the Technical University of
Munich (TUM) with an interdisciplinary and cross-faculty orientation in the field of data science, particularly in machine learning. The
Institute serves as a facilitator and disseminator of cutting-edge data science practices, technologies, and IT infrastructures for the
entire university, linking all TUM data-related expertise. The expertise of the data stewards will be pooled in the TUM Research
Data Hub, a cooperation between the MDSI and the University Library, as a central point of contact for TUM researchers and
partners in all matters relating to research data management.
The DFG-funded Transregio Initiative (TRR356 PlantMicrobe -
https://trr356plantmicrobe.de) is an innovative collaborative effort
aimed at deciphering the molecular interfaces of plant-symbiont and -pathogen interactions. This multi-institutional project includes
research groups from TUM, LMU, the University of Tübingen, and other leading institutions, blending the worlds of biology,
bioinformatics, and data science.
Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field with a focus on data management.
- Previous experience in bioinformatics, data analysis, and biological research.
- Knowledge of biological data repositories and relevant IT infrastructures.
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and research skills.
- A willingness to dive into new challenges and learn new skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Responsibilities
As the Data Steward for TRR356, you're not just a custodian of data - you're an essential connector in our diverse scientific
network. Your role extends beyond traditional data management; you'll harness data to uncover new insights in areas ranging f rom
molecular interfaces in plant-microbe interactions to imaging and genetic diversity. You'll collaborate closely with multiple groups
focusing on these specialized areas across Munich and Tübingen, as well as with various institutes and research centers.
Specifically, your position is part of a collaborative project involving the Leibniz Supercomputing Center, Zentrum für
Datenverarbeitung of the University of Tübingen, the Munich Data Science Institute, and Helmholtz Munich. The role will be
primarily based at TUM and Helmholtz Munich.
As the Data Steward for TRR356, you will:
- Coordinate research data management activities within the TRR356 PlantMicrobe Initiative.
- Design and implement bioinformatics workflows and data analysis pipelines.
- Promote scientific collaborations and synergies across research groups.
- Develop guidelines and best practices for data integrity in biological research.
- Act as a liaison for cross-disciplinary communication in data and bioinformatics.
- Educate and train the next generation of researchers in data management and handling.
What We Offer
- Impactful Work: Make a significant contribution to groundbreaking research that advances our understanding of plant -microbe
interactions.
- Dynamic Team: Join a committed, interdisciplinary team where your contributions are valued.
- Professional Development: Opportunities for mentorship and involvement in scientific research will broaden your professional
