The Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, a member of
the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, and
the Hannover Medical School invite applications for a
FULL PROFESSORSHIP OF
FOR INDIVIDUALIZED MEDICINE
(salary scale W3)
at the earliest possible date.
At the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research (HZI), headquartered
in Braunschweig, researchers are investigating the
infection mechanisms of bacterial and viral pathogens and
their interaction with the host, leading to new patient-specific
strategies to fight infectious diseases. The Hannover Medical
School (MHH) is one of the leading German university
hospitals in the field of infectious diseases with a special
focus on both infection research and immunology. The close
partnership between the two institutions is strengthened by
TWINCORE – Center for Experimental and Clinical Infection
Research, and the recently established CiiM - Center for Individualized
Infection Medicine, as well as numerous outstanding
regional and national alliances and initiatives, including
the recently awarded Cluster of Excellence "RESIST".
The successful applicant will be qualified in both research and
teaching with emphasis on data-driven aspects of immune
response to infections or vaccination and the conversion into
computer models for predicting individual immune reactions.
Reflecting HZI's research focus, the applicant's research
expertise will fit to the areas of gastrointestinal bacterial
infections, antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, chronic
viral infections or respiratory viral infections. Additionally,
expertise in the fields of generating, analyzing and integrating
multi-omics data and mathematical model building is

research findings to enable personalized medicine should be

The position holder will be appointed as a civil servant at
MHH ("Jülich Model") and simultaneously as a department
leader at the HZI. To foster close cooperation with the clinical
departments of MHH and TWINCORE, the group shall be
established as central department of the CiiM in Hannover.
Prerequisites for the appointment are high-ranking publications
in leading international journals, the successful acquisition
of third-party funds, international reputation, experience
in leading a research unit as well as teaching. A degree
in life science, bioinformatics or medicine discipline with an
emphasis on infection biology or immunology including a
habilitation (or an equivalent level of scientific achievement)
A special commitment to teaching, including interdisciplinary
courses according to the new regulations for medicine as part
of the HannibaL model at MHH as well as in BSc and MSc
courses and structured doctoral and physicians scientist programs
of MHH, is expected.
