To strengthen our team in the Research
Laboratory of the Department of Neurology, we are looking for
Two PhD doctoral researchers in
Neurobiology (f/m/d)
Requisition No. 150 E/2021
Deadline: August 1, 2021
(subject to third-party funding)
starting as soon as possible. The PhD scholarships are limited until June 30, 2025 in part-time employment (26 hrs/week) and remunerated according to the regulations of the German public sector (E13 TV-L).
The Experimental Neurology group investigates fundamental mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease. Within the framework of the
Collaborative Research Center 1270 "ELAINE – Electrically Active ImplaNts" (financed by the German Research Foundation), we are primarily concerned with the effects and mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation in animal models of Parkinson's disease. Our goal is to better characterize this method, which has been available in clinical use for decades, and thus to contribute to an optimization of
deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's patients in the future. Within the first funding phase of the Collaborative Research Center (2017-2021), a fully implantable neurostimulation system for rodents could already be developed. The aim of the second funding period is to transfer these findings into a transgenic animal model of Parkinson’s disease and to gain further insights into the effect of deep brain stimulation at both histopathological and functional (e. g. electrophysiological, functional imaging) levels. Together with the support and supervision of the group members of the Experimental Neurology group, these studies including the dissertation can be completed within the project phase.
The results of the conducted research will be presented in the form of lectures and documented in the form of reports and publications.
