The Mildred Scheel Early Career Center Würzburg (https://www.med.uni-wuerzburg.de/msnz/the-msnz/) and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (https://www.biozentrum.uni-wuerzburg.de/molbio/startseite/) are looking for enthusiastic young scientists (f/m/d) with a background in Life Sciences who are interested to pursue PhD projects in one of the following groups: Carolin Kastner studies liver metastases of colon carcinoma. The project aims to identify factors that are required for the growth of colon tumor cells, but not of the surrounding normal liver tissue. Gabriele Büchel works on improving therapies for a childhood cancer, neuroblastoma. The project analyses the mechanisms that enable neuroblastoma cells to escape surveillance by the immune system and searches for strategies to induce immune cells to attack neuroblastoma tumors. Martin Eilers studies biochemical mechanisms that control the growth of human tumors and develops new strategies for tumor therapy. The project focuses on identifying critical interaction partners of the MYC oncoprotein, which are required for MYC proteins to drive the growth of pancreatic tumors. Our offer
The projects will be localized in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which is part of the Biocenter of the University Würzburg. The Biocenter has a vibrant research environment with multiple groups working on central questions of cell and molecular biology. We are also part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Mainfranken.
