With around 8,000 employees, the University Hospital with its
subsidiaries is one of Düsseldorf's largest employers and is
constantly developing. Due to its size and optimal equipment as well
as the connection to research and teaching, the University Hospital
offers a wide range of tasks that make the daily work routine
extremely diverse. For this reason, we are looking for motivated
people who embrace change processes and see them as a personal
challenge.
Exploiting metabolic dependencies, tumor plasticity and
consequences for drug response of Hairy cell leukemia
The Clinic for Haematology, Oncology and Medical Immunology
(Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Sascha Dietrich) at the Medical Faculty of the
Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is advertising a position for a
PhD student (m/w/d) (65%)
in the field of Molecular Biology
The employment is initially limited for a period of three years.
In accordance with §2 Abs. 2 of the Act of Academic Fixed-Term
Contract (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG), the
position is limited to the exercise of a third-party funded project.
The position will be funded by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and
the Hairy cell Leukemia Foundation and is designed for three years,
the employment contract is concluded with the Heinrich Heine
University Düsseldorf.
The doctoral work will be carried out under the supervision of PD
Dr. rer. nat. Marc Seifert and will be embedded in an
interdisciplinary research team of Molecular biologists,
Immunologists, Clinician scientists and Bioinformaticians.
The PhD student will plan, carry out and evaluate experiments, in
which normal cells from healthy donor biopsies and cells from the
tumor-microenvironment from lymphoma patients are examined and
characterized on molecular and functional level. A particular focus
of this thesis will be the investigation of human bone marrow and
spleen samples, and the biology and pathogenesis Hairy cell leukemia
(HCL). For this purpose, normal tissues, tumor cells and cells of
the micromilieu will be investigated by multi-OMICS-analyses
(multi-/single-cell), and multiparameter Immunofluorescence Imaging
CODEX (CO-Detection by indEXing). A major aim of the study is to
identify specific vulnerabilities in the cellular interactions of
primary, refractory, and relapsing HCL cells, so that therapeutic
options can be evaluated in drug screening procedures and functional
assays. The PhD student will have access to a Germany-wide network
and tissue bank (spleen, bone marrow, blood) of > 100 HCL patients.
We are looking for highly motivated doctoral students with good
English skills and a diploma or master's degree in molecular
biology. Interest or experience in immunology, hematology or
oncology is desirable.
Applications from female candidates are welcome and will be given
priority in the event of equal suitability, competence, and
professional performance. People with disabilities are welcome to
apply and will be treated preferentially in the event of equal
