The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) combines its three core tasks: research, higher education, and inno­vation within one mission. The KIT-Faculty of Chemistry and Biosciences in cooperation with the Helmholtz Programme "BioInterfaces in Technology and Medicine (BIFTM)" - as a part of the Division of Biology, Chemistry and Process Engineering - seeks to recruit at the earliest convenience a

W1-Professorship in Systems Biology/Bioinformatics
(with Tenure Track)

You will develop network models of biological processes in higher organisms and validate the models generated either in your own laboratory or in collaboration with groups in the BIFTM programme. You will interact intensively with groups focusing on systems biology, quantitative imaging, bioinformatics and modeling and thereby streng­then network analysis. You will have access to the large data storage and high performance computing envi­ronment of the Steinbuch Centre for Computing at KIT.

You are expected to participate in teaching of the Bachelor/Master courses in "General and Applied Biology" and "Chemical Biology".

Hiring requirements follow from § 51 of the Universities Act (Landeshochschulgesetz) of the state of Baden-Württemberg being applicable before April, 1st 2014, requiring a university degree, teaching competence, and outstanding scientific competence. Appointment will be initially for a period of four years and is extended to a total of six years subject to a positive midterm evaluation. In case of a positive tenure evaluation, the assistant professor is appointed to a permanent full professorship (W3). For supporting a better predictable scientific career development and accompanying procedure and mentoring is offered.
