at the Research Network Quantum Aspects of Space Time

Professor Walther's research group is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information group at the Faculty of Physics. The group's research combines the development of scalable photonic quantum technology for quantum computing and other quantum information applications with the investigation of fundamental quantum science questions. The main activities reach from quantum control of single photons using solid-state photon sources, integrated waveguide technology, tailored nonlinear media and detectors based on superconductor technology to interferometric precision measurements of weak gravitational forces. For further reinforcement we are looking for a University Assistant PostDoc.
The research will take place in the environment of the Research Network for Quantum Aspects of Time (Turis), which is a joined network of the University of Vienna and the Austrian Academy of Science. TURIS was establish as a joint effort of new approaches that address the Big Question of interfacing quantum physics with gravity.
Duration of employment: 5 year/s
Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration.
This involves
- Developing and strengthening the independent research profile
- Involvement in research projects / research studies
- International publications and presentations
- Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- Doctoral degree/PhD degree in Physics
- Professional competence in quantum optics, quantum information, gravitational physics, quantum photonics,
- Methodological competence in quantum optics experiments, photonic quantum entanglement, large-scale optical fiber interferometry
- Didactic competence: motivated to teach and communicate knowledge to students
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Experience of working on research projects
- Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards)
- International presentation experience
Desirable qualifications are
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Experience of supervising students
