The Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is comprised of 17 groups that conduct internationally leading research in the field of microbial ecology and environmental systems science. The Centre's Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science assembles an international, ambitious and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere.
The Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic PhD student in the field of gut microbiology. The project involves the community assembly, molecular mechanisms of ecological interactions, and host-microbe interactions of the gut microbiome in premature neonates.
The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.

Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This includes:
+ Involvement in a research project on the gut microbiome of premature neonates
+ Publications and presentations
+ Involvement in project applications for third-party funding
+ Teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
+ Supervision of trainees and students
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within the first year of employment.
Profile:
Minimum Requirement Profile:
+ Diploma or master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, or equivalent qualification
+ Excellent command of written and spoken English
+ High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
+ Excellent team-working ability
Professional qualifications:
+ Experience in scientific research
+ Experience in scientific communication (presentations, reports, etc.)
Additional qualification profile:
Methodological competences (one or more of the following):
+ Experience in molecular biology laboratory work
+ Experience in microbiological techniques
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have very good communication and organizational skills.
