The University of Vienna, Faculty of Chemistry, is the home of the newly founded Vienna Doctoral School in Chemistry (DoSChem). DoSChem is the largest doctoral training program in Austria focusing on the field of chemistry and closely related sciences by bringing together about 175 doctoral students and more than 45 principal investigators. Our goal is to train excellent scientists and to provide an open-minded environment that allows them to connect with each other and to experience a scientifically rich environment to carry out interdisciplinary and curiosity-driven research.
DoSChem offers 3 exciting PhD projects for the duration of 3 years starting fall 2021.
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months and to participate in research, teaching and administration, including: - Participation in research projects / research studies - Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations - Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement - Supervision of students - Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums - Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration.

In the group of Prof. Kowol at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, a PhD position is available from October 1st, 2021.
Your profile: Completed diploma/master in chemistry, preferably in the field of synthetic chemistry or an equivalent qualification.
Experience in the synthesis of biologically active compounds as well as in the field of analytical and preparative HPLC.
#2 (Planstelle 12393) PhD position in Analytical Chemistry
In the group of Prof. Ahrends at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, a PhD position is available starting fall 2021.
Your tasks:
Develop of targeted mass spectrometry workflows to investigate signaling pathway.
Complement available data bases.
Integrate your findings with other omics-strategies.
Your profile:
Master of science (chemistry, biology or similar), with a publication record.
A solid understanding of the relevant concepts in mass spectrometry and proteomics.
An understanding of the statistical principles behind current best practices in the field.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to handle several concurrent projects.
#3 (Planstelle 12395) PhD position in Physiological Chemistry
At the Institute of Physiological Chemistry in the group of Dr. Lieder 1 PhD position is available starting fall 2021.
Your tasks:
Work in an interdisciplinary and international team to perform studies on the identification of the signaling pathways of bioactive food ingredients via application of state-of-the-art molecular biological, biochemical, and analytical techniques.
Participation in animal studies.
Participation in proof-of-concept human intervention studies.
Your profile:
Master degree in biological chemistry, nutrition, food chemistry or related field.
Hands-on experience in cell culture techniques.
Hands-on experience in molecular biological (PCR, sequencing, gene editing) and biochemical methods (photometrical assays, Western Blot, ELISA)
