The Cluster of Excellence SE²A – EXC 2163 is an interdisciplinary research center with the focus on investigating technologies for a sustainable and eco-friendly air transport system. Scientists from aerospace, electrical, energy and chemical engineering are working on the reduction of emissions and noise, as well as recycling and life-cycle concepts for airframes and improvements in air traffic management.
We are offering temporary positions (up to 3 years), up to salary level EG 13 TV-L, full time:
more than 30 PhD positions (m/f/d) within the Cluster of Excellence SE²A – Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation.
The entry date is as soon as possible, the duration of this DFG funded project is initially limited until the end of 2025.
Background
The scientists in the Cluster of Excellence SE²A – Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation follow interdisciplinary approaches to drastically reduce the energy requirements for future commercial aircraft, to develop new, sustainable approaches for energy storage and energy conversion in aircraft, and to holistically evaluate and optimize the ecological efficiency and economic viability of the air transport system.
You will work with leading experts in aviation research from Technische Universität Braunschweig, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Leibniz University Hannover (LUH), the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) and the National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB) or in cooperation with our international partner Delft University of Technology - Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Netherlands.
The SE²A interdisciplinary research network is structured into the three core research areas “Assessment of the Air Transport System”, “Flight Physics and Vehicle Systems” and “Energy Storage & Conversion”. For further information visit our website

Tasks
You will be part of your research team at one of the SE²A participating institutions in Braunschweig/Hannover/Göttingen, but also part of the SE²A PhD program, which offers additional qualification and opportunities for international scientific exchange. Active participation is mandatory, and the time commitment for this training measure is 10% of the working time. Beyond, the SE²A network allows you an intensive and regular exchange with other project partners strengthening your interdisciplinary integration. An equal opportunities program and a Research Club for High School Students complement the social commitment of the SE²A network.
