Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management
Department of Social Sciences and Business (ISE), Roskilde University (RUC), invites applications for a position as associate professor in Supply Chain Management. The position is available from
August 1 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
In announcing the position, ISE looks to strengthen its relationship with the private sector mainly through the Food & Bio Cluster Denmark and with an ambition to focus on stakeholders in Region
Zealand. Simultaneously, ISE aims to develop its research and teaching in supply chain management as it pertains to sustainable production and distribution, the role of SMEs in food and bio supply
chains, the role of technological innovations in the food & bio sector, and/or the experience economy of food production. The Department is interested in applicants, whose research and teaching
profile primarily includes one of these fields; applicants who wants to work closely with the university’s external stakeholders and applicants who seek an interdisciplinary research and education environment.
ISE conducts interdisciplinary, collaborative and socially engaged research based on business studies, political science, economics, anthropology, sociology, legal studies, and development studies.
It is an innovative and interdisciplinary university environment characterized by academic and methodological diversity in research and education. The department’s researchers put emphasis on research
methodologies and they share a commitment to understanding businesses and society in diverse contexts of change and global engagement. We produce research at the highest international level that feeds
into our educational programmes, while simultaneously leveraging our research to impact social, economic and political change. Research in the department is organised in research groups. The selected
candidate is expected to work closely with for instance sociologists, economists, political scientists, and anthropologists in one of these groups. Read more at
Responsibilities and tasks
The associate professor is expected to maintain a steady rate of publications as well as to make a contribution to the research culture in the department. The associate professor’s work includes research and research-based teaching and supervision at BA and MA level. It is expected that the candidate has an aptitude for external collaboration, and Roskilde University provides the candidate with a reduced teaching load of 150 hours within the first three year to cover the commitment with one or more of the Danish cluster organisations. Furthermore, the associate professor is expected to attract research grants, manage research projects, provide guidance and supervision of PhD students and assistant professors, participate actively in research groups and development of new teaching activities, as well as take part in academic assessments and other tasks requested by the Department. Applicants are referred to the university’s Faculty expectations for specifications on the required level of qualifications within research, teaching, networking, fundraising, impact and outreach etc.
The ideal candidate is expected to:
Demonstrate evidence of active engagement with stakeholders in the public and private sector in Denmark
Demonstrate evidence of a steady rate of publications, a progression in publications over time, as well as current research activity in the form of recent publications at high international level,
Accomplish research and engage in research cooperation meeting high international standards,
Contribute to boost the international recognition of the research of the Department,
Engage in external fundraising to increase funds for the Department,
Play a role in developing the educational programmes of the Department,
Contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the Department,
Participate in the Department’s communication with the broader public,
Take responsibility for the long-term well-being of the department and RUC at large
Actively contribute to the research environment by a visible and physical presence at ISE, and
Promote RUC’s academic reputation.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree and qualifications equivalent to a completed employment period as assistant professor. The ideal candidate matches the following characteristics:
International research profile within business studies with a particular focus on supply chain management in the food & bio sector
Documented research production at an international level, including publications in the field’s internationally recognized journals/publishing houses
Teaching experience in supply chain management, and preferably also in other subjects within the field of business studies
A keen interest and experience in project-based teaching and teaching in an interdisciplinary environment.
The candidate should be able to document pedagogical qualifications, good teaching evaluations, and the ability to innovate within the educational field.
Ability to communicate in Danish (or possibly Swedish or Norwegian)
Moreover, the ideal candidate shall be enterprising and possess good communication skills, and be a visible involved participant in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department. At the time of appointment, successful candidates must master English for academic purposes.
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
Relevance of research expertise for the research groups’ focus areas
Scientific production and research potential at an international level,
The ability to create, promote and utilize research results,
Experience with close collaboration with external stakeholders
Strong teaching qualifications, experience with project-based learning, and interdisciplinary teaching experience,
The ability to attract external funding in collaboration with external partners such as public authorities, private companies, NGO’s etc.
The ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation

Terms of employment
The employment is full time and you will refer to the Dean, Peter Kragelund
The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
After the deadline for applications the Dean will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee. Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.
The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
Once the recruitment process is completed, all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application.
