Full Professor or Associate Professor (promotion track) of Inclusive Education

The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed.

The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society. The FHSE offers six Bachelor and 20 Master degrees and a doctoral school providing students with the necessary knowledge and high-qualified skills to succeed in their future career.

Your Role

The holder of the position will be a member of the Department of Education and Social Work within the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences.

She/he will be a scholar of Inclusive Education. She/he should demonstrate experience and expertise in the development and implementation of inclusive education programs and pedagogy, including broad knowledge of student disabilities and diversity.

She/he should also have expertise in the development and implementation of diagnostic and interventions procedures for children and adults with a range of developmental disorders (including Dyslexia, Specific Language Impairment, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Attention Deficits, Autism Spectrum Disorders), behavioural issues and/or physical handicaps (e.g. blindness, deafness, paralysis).

Moreover, the holder of the position will conduct research, teach, and raise awareness in education and society about disability and human rights, educational disadvantages and special educational needs.

Her/his research profile is substantially concerned with inclusive education, disability, and diversity in the context of a multicultural and multilingual society. In this field of research, expertise is expected in at least three of the following domains:
  • Expertise in the field of inclusive education/special education
  • Knowledge of and expertise in diagnostic and intervention of learning difficulties, developmental disorders, behavioural issues and/or physical handicaps in education
  • Administrative experience, preferably in the leadership of study programmes in educational and social sciences
  • Experience with multidisciplinary research and multiple methods (qualitative, quantitative)
Teaching areas

The holder will develop and lead the new Master en Approche Inclusion.

She/he will work with other study programmes directors to coordinate relevant contents and establish synergies with other programmes at BA, MA and doctoral levels and will teach in the following study programmes, in addition to the new Master:
  • Bachelor en Sciences de l’Education (BScE)
  • Bachelor en Formation Pédagogique (BFP)
  • Master en Approche Inclusion
  • Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences (Strands: Educational Sciences; Social Sciences)
What we expect from you
  • PhD in Inclusive/Special Education, Psychology or Social Sciences
  • a minimum of five years of post-doctoral experience acquired in a university or comparable research center
  • an outstanding research record in related to Inclusive Education
  • international research and teaching experience
  • proven ability to conduct cross-national research projects and acquire research funds
  • knowledge of and familiarity with Luxembourg’s educational system and of national educational systems, especially those of Luxembourg’s neighbouring countries, is considered an advantage
Language requirements

The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in French and German and have a good working knowledge of English.

  • Contract Type: Contract type: this position is offered at the Full Professor or Associate Professor level, depending on qualification. Both levels are tenured. At the Associate Professor level, a possibility of promotion will be given after 5 years upon positive evaluation
